Have you ever thought about God’s anger? Maybe you always think of Him as an angry God from the Old Testament. He is a God of wrath, waiting to destroy whoever may do something He deems wrong. Or do you believe He is loving and therefore withholds his anger? When Jesus came to earth that that settled God’s anger. It’s because of Jesus, that God does not look at us with contempt. But God has anger for those who are against Him and or His children.

All emotions were created by God. EVERYTHING was created by God. That is a bigger realization than just the stars, light, planets, animals, oceans, people, flowers, and vegetation. Trying to wrap our heads around that reality is big enough for one lifetime. But He didn’t stop there. No God gave us feelings and we people are an extension of Him, therefore God has feelings. God not only created love, but He is love. God not only created patience, but all patience flows from Him to us. He is the beginning and end of EVERYTHING.

God’s anger was shown in the Old Testament in they way He dealt with sin and those that went against Him. Here is an example from Psalms of God rescuing David from his enemies:

 “Earth wobbles and lurches;
 huge mountains shake like leaves,
Quake like aspen leaves
    because of his rage.
His nostrils flare, bellowing smoke;
    his mouth spits fire.
Tongues of fire dart in and out;
    he lowers the sky.
He steps down;
    under his feet an abyss opens up.
He’s riding a winged creature,
    swift on wind-wings.
Now he’s wrapped himself
    in a trenchcoat of black-cloud darkness.
But his cloud-brightness bursts through,
    spraying hailstones and fireballs.
Then God thundered out of heaven;
    the High God gave a great shout,
    spraying hailstones and fireballs.

God shoots his arrows—pandemonium!
    He hurls his lightnings—a rout!
The secret sources of ocean are exposed,
    the hidden depths of earth lie uncovered
The moment you roar in protest,
    let loose your hurricane anger.

16But me he caught-“

Psalms 18: 7-16

The Message

 Jesus saved us from that! Now God still gets angry- condemning- towards those who do not trust Jesus because God cannot look upon sin. Through Jesus our sins are forgiven therefore God can look at us. There might times when God looks at us with disappointment because we didn’t follow His ways or teachings, but that is a very different look than one of disgust and contempt.

I say all of this, to say, God can handle your anger. He knows anger. He understands anger. Anger does scare Him. Our anger does not damage God.  And when we do take a step off of His path and blame Him for the consequences, He is patiently waiting for us to realize that we went the wrong way. Sharing your anger and frustration with God is actually good. It helps you process where you are wrong in your thinking. It allows you to see where God is the middle of your situation and realize He loves you with a jealous love. Just like any child who disappoints their parents, the love bond between them cannot be broken. We are God’s children, our bound with Him can NEVER be broken.
