There is nothing more glorious than a hot stack of pancakes and gooey maple syrup at 6 pm. Scrabbled eggs with bits of sausage cut up is a dinner that soothes the soul after a long day.
If it’s the dealer’s choice, then I choose French Toast every time. Half-inch slices of French bread, soaked in egg, milk, vanilla, a dash of cinnamon, and cooked in butter on both sides for four minutes each. French Toast is my love language.
We’ve all had breakfast dinner, but when was the last time you had dessert for breakfast? I ate Pumpkin Pie for breakfast this morning. It dawned on me a couple years ago that being an adult meant I could break the rules and eat whatever I wanted when I wanted. So with that realization, I pulled a Peach Cobbler out of the fridge, heated it up, poured milk on it, and enjoyed it with my latte. Dessert is glorious.
Dessert for breakfast is the perfect way to describe God’s mercy. God’s mercy is His love responding to human needs in unexpected and unearned ways. His mercies are new every day. Every glorious day, God is covering us in mercy, love. We don’t deserve protection we didn’t know we needed. Dessert for breakfast is as decadent and surprising as mercy. God’s mercies break all the rules! Go ahead and splurge. Eat dessert for breakfast one day this week as a reminder of the canopy of mercy that covers you wherever you go.
Lamentations 3: 22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;[a]
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
